The Public Housing Community Fund works to build a stronger, more equitable New York City through investment in NYCHA campuses and its residents. NYCHA communities are more than just buildings; they are vibrant neighborhoods with families, seniors, and young individuals positively contributing to our city, all deserving of a safe, nurturing environment with abundant opportunity.
Each year, the Fund aims to raise $100,000 through an annual giving campaign to directly support NYCHA residents in the areas of Leadership Development, Community Health and Workforce Training. 100% of donations received through Together for NYCHA goes directly to supporting the Fund’s resident-focused programs by providing essential supports to ensure residents have the tools and resources they need to succeed. Your generosity will help provide higher education and career opportunities for residents, leadership development skills building and training, health and wellness programs, access to opportunities where barriers exist, and foster community engagement and empowerment.
As the most economically disadvantaged population in New York City, 50% of NYCHA residents live below the poverty level, compared to 20% citywide. Your contributions will directly impact 1 in every 17 New Yorkers, funding essential programs and improvements within NYCHA and exclusively for NYCHA residents.
Together for NYCHA impact Areas
Leadership Development Programs
These programs encourage civic engagement with a goal of improving leadership skills for youth and older adult participants, provide access to educational opportunities and support NYCHA residents in career readiness. Participants receive stipends and participate in activities to introduce them to educational and career opportunities. Each program is categorized by theme and supported by a strategic curriculum partner.
2022-24 Program Themes: Technology Skills (intergenerational), Urban Design & Architecture, Real Estate Development, Energy and Sustainability, Housing Justice & Advocacy, and Media & Creative Arts.
A donation to Together for NYCHA will provide funds to support youth and adult stipends and other resources for participants.
Healthy Start @ NYCHA
The Fund supports Healthy Start @ NYCHA, providing essential funding that supports expecting mothers and fathers living in NYCHA. The Fund provides resources for NYCHA to host community baby showers and purchases supplies for parents and their newborns living in NYCHA communities.
A donation to Together for NYCHA will help support expectant mothers and fathers living in NYCHA by providing them essentials for newborns and their families, improving community health.
NYCHA-CUNY Scholarship Program
The NYCHA-CUNY Scholarship program serves resident scholars who are enrolled in a CUNY degree program with 30 or more credits and a minimum 3.0 GPA. Graduate students are also eligible to apply. Now in its eight year, the program aims to provide more scholarships to eligible students each year. In 2022, the Fund supported over $70,000 worth of scholarships and in 2023, the Fund supported over $75,000 worth of scholarships, awarded a record 29 scholarships to NYCHA residents. The Fund hopes to exceed the number of NYCHA-CUNY scholarships awarded in 2023 next year.
A donation to Together for NYCHA will provide funds necessary to award NYCHA-CUNY scholarships in 2024.
Community Enrichment
Throughout the year, the Fund secures tickets, unique experiences and hosts community events and programs (golf, pickle ball, etc.) for NYCHA residents to enjoy and participate in. Such programs include concerts, live performances, access to exhibits, community sports programs, cultural experiences and more. As the Fund expands these offerings, NYCHA residents are in need of transportation support to access these activities and experiences.
A donation to Together for NYCHA will help support access to these unique offerings, providing exposure and opportunities for all NYCHA residents to enjoy.
Career Readiness & Job Training Programs
The Fund supports NYCHA residents as they explore career opportunities, participate in career readiness and job training programs. The NYCHA Clean Energy Academy, a program of the Fund, trains NYCHA residents in green jobs and supports their placement into careers in the green economy as NYCHA decarbonizes. The Fund also supports Career Pathways programs, NYCHA’s entrepreneurs (Business Pathways) and aims to provide the tools and wrap around services for every resident to reach their full potential.
A donation to Together for NYCHA will provide essential supports such as food, transportation, computers and other services for participants to be successful.
Our City’s Future
Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to a brighter future for all NYCHA residents. 100% of funds raised through the Together for NYCHA campaign will go directly to serving NYCHA residents. Annually, the Fund is asked to meet the needs of NYCHA residents and we depend on private donors to help support these critical needs.
A donation of any amount to Together for NYCHA will help support over a half-million New Yorkers from 335 NYCHA communities in all five boroughs.
